GIS Introduction

Our GIS Services division is one of our most established and experienced, and a source of much pride within the group. This pedigree stems from both the high calibre of the team in their specialist areas, and the fact that many within the team are researchers as well as practitioners. As a result the services we offer benefit from being selected and managed by experts, with a keen understanding of industry challenges and developments.

For any development project involving GIS map data, the most important task is to reference the map with the correct real world coordinates. If the maps are not geo-referenced, no other information can be displayed over, or positioned under, the map coverage. Through our GIS services we offer accurate geo-referencing / geo-coding of your projects at affordable rates. We are also able to deliver geospatial analytical procedures for use in, amongst others: agriculture, fisheries, mining, forestry, market research, transport, electrical networks, banking, water supplies, sewage, flood management, and hazard mitigation.

Some projects extend to our thematic mapping service which allows clients to display the spatial data distribution of single or multiple attributes, or of specific topics and themes. Examples include: property portfolio profiles, soil types, mining priority zones, flood risk, or crime locations. Further applications include: cadastral mapping, change detection studies, 3D visualisation; modelling services for hydrological, geochemical, hydro-chemical, and architectural projects.

As standard practice, across all our GIS services, SBL use geometric correction, (also known as image warping or distortion correction) to digitally rectify and manipulate the image when projected on a non-planar screen. As with our CAD Services, the GIS division is based within our ISO-accredited engineering team in India. As such clients have access to a large, well-managed, highly skilled resource that can be called upon to complete projects at short notice, and to the highest standards, while still maintaining competitive rates.
