Digital Forest Inventory Mapping

13,920 sq. km of Canadian forest land digitised and attributed with 100% automated consistency. A leading Canadian geospatial firm required a scalable digital forestry inventory to support wood-supply planning, ecosystem management and long-term environmental analysis across Newfoundland and Labrador. Existing manual GIS workflows created bottlenecks in attribution accuracy, turnaround time and operational cost — particularly across multi-vintage forest datasets spanning more than 1.3 million hectares.

Automated GIS workflows digitised 13,920 sq. km, improving forestry planning accuracy, reducing costs and enabling scalable environmental management operations.

Challenge

The project demanded engineering-grade forest inventory mapping under strict provincial delivery timelines and budget constraints. Thousands of polygons required precise attribution across 16 separate forestry variables including species, density and age classifications. Manual interpretation and data entry introduced significant risk of inconsistency, while fragmented GIS workflows slowed integration into downstream wood-supply planning systems.

Approach

SBL Infotech deployed MMS — its Managed Media Services platform — to govern the complete forest inventory workflow from ortho-photo interpretation through spatial database delivery. A dedicated GIS production team worked alongside certified Canadian foresters to execute large-scale photo interpretation, CAD digitisation and multi-vintage analysis across 2010 and 2011 datasets. Automated in-house scripts incorporated and validated 16 unique attributes per polygon, eliminating manual entry inconsistencies and maintaining topology integrity across all deliverables. Final outputs were delivered as Esri-compatible shapefiles, enabling immediate integration into provincial forestry and ecosystem management systems.

Outcome

What began as a labour-intensive mapping exercise evolved into a repeatable digital forestry operating model. The client gained a scalable inventory platform capable of supporting selective harvesting analysis, predictive wood-supply modelling and long-term conservation planning across millions of hectares. The new workflow reduced operational dependency on fragmented manual GIS processes, accelerated turnaround cycles and established a reusable framework for future natural-resource mapping initiatives across regions and jurisdictions.

Reliving History with Geospatial Intelligence

260 years of fragmented historical maps transformed into a georeferenced spatial database for anthropological and land-use analysis. A prominent US university needed to study the historical evolution of Uxeau, France, across multiple centuries of land ownership, taxation, and agricultural activity. The research depended on digitising and harmonising vintage maps dating back to 1759 — each with different scales, formats, and levels of degradation — into a single spatially accurate GIS environment suitable for comparative analysis. 260+ years of historical mapping digitised and layered. Lambert II precision georeferencing using Esri GIS tools. Multi-era land parcel and feature extraction delivered at scale.

"Historical GIS digitisation transformed fragmented archival maps into a searchable spatial database, accelerating anthropological research and long-term land-use analysis. "
AI-Powered CT Scan Annotation
US radiology AI company

AI-Powered CT Scan Annotation

30,000+ CT scans annotated at 98.9% segmentation accuracy for AI-driven radiology models. A US-based MedTech AI company developing radiology models for tumour detection and analysis required clinically precise annotation support to accelerate model training and validation. Existing workflows faced rising costs, limited access to qualified medical annotators and growing compliance pressure around handling sensitive patient imaging data.

HIPAA-compliant medical annotation workflows improved radiology AI accuracy, accelerated tumour detection model training and reduced operational costs significantly.
Mortgage Foreclosure Data Management

Mortgage Foreclosure Data Management

40%+ faster foreclosure data processing with 50% higher accuracy across multi-county property records. A US-based mortgage data company managing property intelligence across more than 155 million properties and 3,000+ counties required a scalable operational model for foreclosure data collection and processing. Their existing workflows relied heavily on manual back-office operations, creating delays, inconsistencies and rising operational overhead across fragmented government data sources.

Standardised foreclosure processing improved nationwide property data accuracy, reduced turnaround times and created a scalable mortgage intelligence operations framework.
